How it works

Enter the order: the item price, postage and gift wrap the buyer paid, and what the item, postage and packaging cost you. Every rate comes from Etsy’s Help Center for shops with an Australian bank account, linked below the calculator.

Fees on every order. Etsy takes a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total, the item price plus postage and gift wrap. Payment processing is 3% of the total sale price plus A$0.25 for a domestic order, or 4% plus A$0.25 when the buyer is overseas; tick the box for an international order.

GST. If you haven’t added a tax ID to Etsy, 10% GST is added to each fee. If you’re registered for GST and have added it, Etsy doesn’t charge GST on its fees, but the calculator takes off the GST you owe on an Australian sale, one eleventh of the price. Exports to overseas buyers are GST-free.

Ads and the listing fee. Choose whether the order came through an Offsite Ad, at 15% or 12%, and add any Etsy Ads spend. The US$0.20 listing fee and the US$100 Offsite Ads cap are set in US dollars, so enter the exchange rate from your Payment account to include them.

Profit. What Etsy deposits is the order total minus every fee. Profit takes off your costs and any GST owed. Set a profit target to see the lowest price that reaches it, and copy a link to share the exact numbers.

Example

A A$40.00 item with A$10.00 postage, costing A$25.00 in total to make, post and pack.

Shop and orderFeesTotal feesProfit
No tax ID, Australian buyerA$3.25 + A$1.75 + A$0.50 GSTA$5.50A$19.50
GST-registered, Australian buyerA$3.25 + A$1.75, GST owed A$4.55A$5.00A$15.45
No tax ID, buyer overseasA$3.25 + A$2.25 + A$0.55 GSTA$6.05A$18.95

The transaction fee is 6.5% of A$50.00 and payment processing is 3% of A$50.00 plus 25 cents, or 4% for an overseas buyer. An order through an Offsite Ad at 15% would add A$7.50 plus GST.

FAQ

How much does Etsy take from an Australian sale?

An Australian shop pays a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price, postage and gift wrap, plus payment processing of 3% and A$0.25 on a domestic order. Without a tax ID added to Etsy, 10% GST is added to those fees. On a A$40 item with A$10 postage that comes to A$5.50, 11% of the A$50 the buyer paid.

What are Etsy’s payment processing fees in Australia?

For shops with an Australian bank account, Etsy Payments costs 3% of the total sale price plus A$0.25 for domestic orders, and 4% plus A$0.25 for international orders. The total sale price includes postage. These fees are on top of the 6.5% transaction fee, and GST applies to them if you haven’t added a tax ID.

Do Australian sellers pay GST on Etsy fees?

Etsy collects GST on its seller fees for Australian shops that haven’t added a tax ID, at the Australian rate of 10%, and issues a monthly invoice. Once a tax ID is added it stops charging it. If you’re registered for GST you can usually claim fees back and owe GST on Australian sales, one eleventh of the price.

Is there a regulatory operating fee for Australian Etsy sellers?

No. Etsy charges a regulatory operating fee to sellers in some countries, such as 0.48% in the UK and 0.50% in Canada, but Australia isn’t on its list. Australian shops pay the transaction fee, payment processing, the listing fee and any ads they choose to use.

How much is the Etsy listing fee in Australian dollars?

Etsy sets the listing fee at 0.20 US dollars and converts it to your payment account currency at the market rate when charged, so the amount in Australian dollars moves with the exchange rate. Enter the rate from your Payment account to count it; the calculator also uses it for the $100 Offsite Ads cap.

Is Etsy or eBay cheaper for Australian sellers?

eBay is free for Australia-based sellers with A$25,000 or less in sales over 12 months and no Pro plan, so small sellers often pay less there. Above that, eBay Pro Starter charges 13.4% plus A$0.30 an order, more than Etsy’s 6.5% plus 3% and A$0.25. Use the eBay Australia calculator to compare your own sale.
