How it works

Enter the sold price, choose your commission rate, and add the shipping and sales tax the buyer paid. Every rate comes from Whatnot’s Help Center pages on seller fees, linked below the calculator. It covers sellers in the US.

Commission. Whatnot’s commission is a percentage of the sold price only: shipping and tax aren’t included. At the Standard tier, for sellers with under $15,000 of sales in four weeks, it is 8% in most categories and 4% for Coins & Money. Bigger sellers move to tiers with lower rates, which differ by category; pick My own rate and enter the rate Seller Hub shows you.

High-value orders. In select categories, Whatnot charges no commission on the part of a sale above $1,500. Tick the box if your category qualifies; sports breaks and surprise products don’t.

Payment processing. Every order pays 2.9% of the total the buyer pays, including shipping and tax, plus $0.30. The percentage is rounded to the cent and the fixed fee added.

Payout and profit. What you receive is the sold price plus shipping, minus both fees. Sales tax isn’t counted as your money. Add the item’s cost and your postage to see the profit. Some states also require tax on Whatnot’s fees, which isn’t included here.

Example

Five sales by a US seller.

$20 + $5 shipping, 8%$1.60 + 2.9% of $25 + $0.30$2.63$22.37
$50 + $5 shipping + $4 tax, 8%$4.00 + 2.9% of $59 + $0.30$6.01$48.99
$50 + $5 shipping, 6.5% tier$3.25 + 2.9% of $55 + $0.30$5.15$49.85
$100 coin, 4%$4.00 + 2.9% of $100 + $0.30$7.20$92.80
$2,000 coin, 4%, high-value4% of $1,500 + 2.9% of $2,000 + $0.30$118.30$1,881.70

In the second sale, an item that cost you $20 with $5 of postage leaves $23.99 profit. Without the high-value rule, the $2,000 coin would pay $80 in commission instead of $60.

FAQ

How much does Whatnot take from a sale?

Whatnot charges two fees. Commission is 8% of the sold price at the Standard tier in most categories, and payment processing is 2.9% of the total order plus $0.30. On a $50 sale with $5 shipping and $4 sales tax, commission is $4.00 and processing $2.01, so Whatnot keeps $6.01 and you receive $48.99 before postage.

Is Whatnot’s commission charged on shipping?

No. Commission is charged on the item price only, without shipping or tax. Payment processing is different: the 2.9% is taken from the total order value the buyer pays, including shipping and any sales tax, plus a fixed $0.30 per order. That is why the calculator asks for shipping and tax separately.

How do Whatnot’s commission tiers work?

Your tier depends on your total sales across all categories over a four-week period, and resets every four weeks. Under $15,000 is the Standard tier, at 8% in most categories. Higher tiers lower the rate, by category, and Whatnot says rates go as low as 3% for select sellers. Your exact rate is shown in Seller Hub; enter it as your own rate.

What is the Whatnot commission on coins?

Coins & Money sales get a reduced commission of 4% at the Standard tier, falling slightly at higher tiers. For live sales the rate follows the show’s category, and for marketplace sales the product’s category, so list coins in the right category. Payment processing at 2.9% plus $0.30 still applies in full.

Does Whatnot charge commission on expensive items?

Since 14 January 2026, Whatnot charges 0% commission on the part of a sale above $1,500 in select categories, such as Coins & Money; sports breaks and surprise products are excluded. A $2,000 coin at 4% pays commission on $1,500 only, $60 instead of $80. Processing is still charged on the full amount.

Does Whatnot charge tax on its fees?

In some US states, Whatnot is required to charge tax on its commissions and fees, so the amount taken from your payout can be a little higher than the headline rates. Whatnot’s help page lists where this applies. This calculator shows the fees before any such tax, so check your Seller Hub statement for the exact figure.
