How it works
Enter the sale, where the buyer is and the category. eBay’s rates come from its Selling fees page for eBay.ca, for sellers registered in Canada without an eBay Store, and GST/HST rates by province from the Canada Revenue Agency, both linked below the calculator.
Total amount of the sale. eBay works out its percentage fees on the item price plus shipping plus sales tax. Pick the buyer’s province and the calculator adds its GST or HST; add any PST or QST the buyer pays too, since it is part of the total.
Final value fee. Most categories charge 13.6% up to $7,500 and 2.35% above, plus $0.30 per order up to $10 or $0.40 above. Some categories differ: 15.3% for media, 13.25% for coins and trading cards, 6.7% for guitars, and 8% with no per-order fee for athletic shoes at $150 or more.
Extra fees. Shipments to the US pay a 0.4% international fee and those elsewhere 1%, unless you use eBay International Shipping. Below Standard sellers pay 6% of the sale on top, or 7% after four months, and Promoted Listings charge your ad rate on the total sale.
Profit. eBay pays out the price and shipping minus every fee; the tax goes to the government. Profit takes off your item, shipping and packaging costs. Set a profit target to see the lowest price that reaches it, and copy a link to share the exact numbers.
Example
eBay’s own examples from its fee page, both to a buyer in Ontario with 13% HST, after the free listings are used. eBay’s card example also adds a $4.00 Bold upgrade, left out here.
| Sale | Final value fee | With $0.30 insertion | You make |
|---|---|---|---|
| $400 phone, free shipping: $452 total | 13.6% of $452 + $0.40 = $61.87 | $62.17 | $337.83 |
| $9,500 trading card: $10,735 total | 13.25% of $7,500 + 2.35% of $3,235 + $0.40 = $1,070.17 | $1,070.47 | $8,429.53 |
A $50 item with $10 shipping to Ontario is a $67.80 sale with HST: $9.22 plus $0.40 in fees, $9.62. The same item shipped to the US, with no Canadian tax, pays 13.6% of $60 plus $0.40 and a 0.4% international fee: $8.80.

FAQ
How much does eBay charge to sell in Canada?
Without an eBay Store, most categories on eBay.ca charge a final value fee of 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500, and 2.35% on any part above, plus $0.30 per order up to $10 or $0.40 above. You get 250 listings a month with no insertion fee, then $0.30 a listing.
Does eBay Canada charge fees on sales tax?
Yes. eBay’s total amount of the sale includes the item price, shipping, handling and sales tax. eBay’s own example: a $400 phone with free shipping to Ontario is a $452 sale including 13% HST, and the final value fee is 13.6% of $452 plus $0.40, which is $61.87. The tax itself goes to the government, not to you.
What is the eBay international fee for Canadian sellers?
If your registered address is in Canada and you don’t use eBay International Shipping, eBay charges 0.4% of the total sale on shipments to the US and 1% everywhere else. It also applies when the buyer’s registered address is outside Canada. With eBay International Shipping on an eligible listing, there’s no international fee.
Which eBay.ca categories have different fees?
Books, movies and music pay 15.3%. Coins and some collectibles, including trading cards and comic books, pay 13.25%. Guitars and basses pay 6.7% with free insertion. Athletic shoes pay 8% and no per-order fee at $150 or more. NFTs pay 5%, and heavy equipment, printing presses and food trucks 3% with a $20 insertion fee.
What happens to my fees if I’m Below Standard?
If eBay evaluates your account as Below Standard on the 20th of the month, it adds 6% of the total sale to your fees on sales the following month, or 7% after four consecutive months. A Very High rate of item-not-as-described returns adds 5% in those categories. Above Standard and Top Rated sellers don’t pay these extra fees.
Do eBay Store subscribers pay less?
Yes. Store subscribers get more zero insertion fee listings and lower final value fees in many categories, in exchange for a monthly subscription. This calculator uses the fees for selling without a Store; see eBay’s Store selling fees page for the subscriber rates. eBay also notes that local GST may apply on top of its fees.
