Barcode Generator
Make EAN-13, UPC-A, EAN-8 and Code 128 barcodes in bulk, sized to GS1 specs, as SVG or PNG.
GTINs with or without the check digit, or any text for Code 128, such as a SKU or Amazon FNSKU. Paste a spreadsheet column with ⌘V / Ctrl+V.
GS1 retail: 0.264–0.66 mm, 0.33 nominal.
Empty: 22.9 mm for EAN-13/UPC-A at this X.

How it works
Paste your codes, one per line, and each becomes a barcode you can download. With the type on Auto, 8 digits make an EAN-8, 12 a UPC-A and 13 an EAN-13; anything else, such as a SKU, becomes Code 128. Choose a type to override it, for example to turn 12 digits into an EAN-13 with its check digit added.
EAN and UPC. The bar patterns come from the GS1 General Specifications: number sets A, B and C for each digit, guard bars at both ends and the centre, and for EAN-13 the first digit carried by the mix of sets A and B in the left half. The check digit is added if you leave it off and checked if you include it. Guard bars run longer than the others, and the digits sit underneath where GS1 places them.
Code 128. Letters, digits and punctuation are encoded with code set B, and runs of four or more digits switch to code set C, which packs two digits into each character to keep the barcode short. The check character is worked out with GS1’s weighted sum, divided by 103.
Size. The X-dimension is the width of the narrowest bar. At the nominal 0.33 mm an EAN-13 is 37.29 mm wide and its bars 22.85 mm tall; change the X-dimension and the standard height scales with it, or enter your own. Every download keeps the Quiet Zones, the blank margins a scanner needs.
Downloads. SVG keeps the exact size in millimetres for artwork and print. PNG suits label printers: pick the printer’s dpi and each bar is rounded to whole pixels so the edges stay crisp. With several codes, download them all in one ZIP. Everything is drawn in your browser.
Example
Codes pasted with the type on Auto, at the nominal X-dimension of 0.33 mm and the standard height, digits printed.
| You enter | Barcode | Encodes | Size with Quiet Zones |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9521234543213 | EAN-13 | 9521234543213 | 37.3 × 27.5 mm |
| 012345678905 | UPC-A | 012345678905 | 37.3 × 27.5 mm |
| 9521234 | EAN-8 (type set to EAN-8) | 95212340, check digit 0 added | 26.7 × 22.9 mm |
| SKU-RED-L-0001 | Code 128 | SKU-RED-L-0001 | 65.3 × 19.6 mm |
Prefix 952 is reserved by GS1 for examples, so these numbers are safe to test with. A 4006381333932 would be flagged: its check digit should be 1.
Barcode sizes and Quiet Zones
From the GS1 General Specifications (Release 26.0), checked 2026-10-31. Width includes the Quiet Zones; both are at the nominal X-dimension of 0.33 mm.
| Barcode | Digits | Quiet Zone, modules (left / right) | Width | Bar height |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EAN-13 | 13 | 11 / 7 | 37.29 mm | 22.85 mm |
| UPC-A | 12 | 9 / 9 | 37.29 mm | 22.85 mm |
| EAN-8 | 8 | 7 / 7 | 26.73 mm | 18.23 mm |
| Code 128 | any text | 10 / 10 | depends on the text | not set for general use |
EAN/UPC X-dimension for retail checkouts: 0.264 mm minimum, 0.33 mm target, 0.66 mm maximum. Height scales with the X-dimension.
FAQ
Which barcode type should I use?
Retail products sold in shops and on marketplaces use the GTIN on the pack: UPC-A (12 digits) mostly in the US and Canada, EAN-13 (13 digits) elsewhere, and EAN-8 on very small packs. Code 128 is for your own labels, such as SKUs, bin locations or the FNSKU labels Amazon asks FBA sellers to print.
Can I make up a barcode number for my product?
Not for retail. A GTIN has to come from a GS1 Company Prefix licensed to your brand, and Amazon, Google and big retailers check numbers against GS1 records. This tool draws a correct barcode for any number you give it, but it doesn’t issue numbers. For SKUs and internal labels, Code 128 can carry any text you like.
What size should a UPC or EAN barcode be?
GS1’s nominal size has a bar module (X-dimension) of 0.33 mm, which makes an EAN-13 or UPC-A 37.29 mm wide including its Quiet Zones and 22.85 mm tall. For retail checkouts the X-dimension can go from 0.264 mm (80%) to 0.66 mm (200%), with the height scaled to match.
What is the Quiet Zone and why does it matter?
It is the blank margin a scanner needs on each side of the bars to find where the barcode starts and stops. GS1 sets it at 11 modules left and 7 right for EAN-13, 9 on each side for UPC-A, 7 for EAN-8 and 10 for Code 128. The downloads include it as white space, so don’t crop it or print over it.
Should I download SVG or PNG?
SVG is a vector file at the exact size in millimetres, the best choice for packaging artwork and print. PNG is an image for label printers and documents. Choose 203 dpi for most thermal label printers or 300 or 600 dpi for laser printers; the tool rounds each bar to whole pixels so the edges stay sharp and shows the resulting size.
Do I need to enter the check digit?
No. Enter 12 digits for an EAN-13, 11 for a UPC-A or 7 for an EAN-8 and the tool adds the check digit. If you enter the full number, it checks the last digit and tells you the correct one when it’s wrong, so a typo can’t end up printed on your packaging.
