Mercari Fees Explained (2026)

By Selling Fee Tools team ·

Mercari changed its fees on 6 January 2025. Sellers now pay one flat selling fee and nothing for payment processing, and buyers pay a small protection fee of their own. This guide explains each fee for Mercari in the US, from Mercari’s Help Center, checked in November 2026.

The 10% selling fee

Mercari charges sellers 10% of the completed item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. There is no payment processing fee on top. Listings created before 6 January 2025 moved to this fee once they were edited or updated.

SaleFeeYou earn
$10, no shipping charge$1.00$9.00
$25 + $6 shipping, buyer pays$3.10$21.90
$40 + $8 shipping, buyer pays$4.80$35.20
$40, you pay $8 shipping$4.00$28.00
$100, no shipping charge$10.00$90.00

Who pays shipping changes the fee

  • The buyer pays: their shipping pays for the label, and the 10% is charged on it too. $8 of shipping adds 80¢ to your fee.
  • You pay (free shipping): the fee is on the item price only, but the whole label comes out of your earnings.

On a $40 item with an $8 label, buyer-paid shipping leaves you $35.20 and free shipping $28.00. If you offer free shipping, build the label into your price.

What the buyer pays

Buyers pay a flat 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the item price and the shipping they pay, plus sales tax. On a $40 item with $8 shipping that is $1.73, so the buyer pays $49.73 before tax. It doesn’t come out of your earnings.

Getting paid

Standard direct deposit to your bank is free. Instant Pay to a debit card costs $3 a withdrawal, so cash out several sales at once rather than after each one.

Pricing tips

  • To earn a set amount with no shipping charge, divide by 0.9: to earn $45, list at $50.
  • Mercari deactivates listings whose earnings would be negative. Cheap items with seller-paid shipping are the ones at risk.
