How it works

Choose your plan and billing, whether you take payments with Shopify Payments or another provider, then enter the order and your costs. Every rate comes from Shopify’s UK pricing page, linked below the calculator.

Card fee. Shopify Payments charges a percentage plus 25p on the amount the customer pays, item and shipping together. The rate falls as the plan rises: 2% on Basic down to 1.3% on Plus for standard UK cards. Amex and international cards pay 3.1% on Basic down to 2.3% on Plus.

Another provider. If you use PayPal, Stripe or another gateway instead, enter its rate and fixed fee. Shopify then adds its third-party transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus.

Plan and VAT. Enter your monthly orders to spread the plan’s cost over each order. UK prices usually include VAT; if you’re VAT-registered, the calculator takes one sixth of the order total off your profit as the VAT you owe HMRC.

Profit. Payout is the order minus fees; profit takes off your item, shipping and other costs. Set a profit target to see the lowest price that reaches it, and copy a link to share the exact numbers.

Example

A £50.00 item with £5.00 shipping on Basic billed yearly, costing £23.00 to make and send.

FAQ

How much does Shopify charge per sale in the UK?

With Shopify Payments, UK stores pay an online card rate of 2% + 25p on Basic, 1.7% + 25p on Grow, 1.5% + 25p on Advanced and 1.3% + 25p on Plus. On a £55 order on Basic that is £1.35. Amex and international cards cost more, and the monthly plan is on top of the card fees.

How much do Shopify plans cost in the UK?

Billed yearly, Basic is £19 a month, Grow £49 and Advanced £259. Billed monthly they are £25, £65 and £344. Plus starts at £1,800 a month. Shopify’s UK pricing page lists these in GBP; enter your monthly orders in the calculator to see what the plan adds to each order.

What are Shopify’s Amex and international card rates in the UK?

On UK Shopify plans, Amex cards and cards issued outside the UK cost the same online rate: 3.1% + 25p on Basic, 2.7% + 25p on Grow, 2.5% + 25p on Advanced and 2.3% + 25p on Plus. On a £55 Basic order that is £1.96 instead of £1.35 for a standard UK card.

What is the Shopify third-party transaction fee in the UK?

If you take payments through a provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a third-party transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, on top of your provider’s own fee. Choose Another provider in the calculator and enter your provider’s rate to compare.

Does the calculator include VAT?

Item prices on a UK store usually include 20% VAT, so enter the price your customer pays. If you’re VAT-registered, tick the box and the calculator takes off the VAT you owe HMRC, one sixth of the VAT-inclusive total. Shopify’s pricing page doesn’t say how VAT applies to its own fees, so none is added to them.

Which Shopify plan is cheapest for my UK store?

It depends on your sales. Moving from Basic to Grow costs £30 more a month on yearly billing and cuts the online card rate by 0.3 points, so it pays for itself at about £10,000 a month of standard card sales. Try each plan in the calculator with your monthly orders to compare the total per order.
