How it works
Enter the payment amount and how the customer pays, then tick anything that applies to the payment. Every rate comes from Stripe’s pricing page for US accounts on standard pricing, linked below the calculator.
Percentage fee. Online card and wallet payments cost 2.9%. Stripe adds 0.5% if the card number was typed in by hand, 1.5% if the card was issued outside the US, and 1% if the payment is converted from another currency, so a typed-in foreign card in another currency pays 5.9%. Klarna costs 5.99% and card payments in person 2.7%. ACH Direct Debit costs 0.8%, never more than $5.00 a payment.
Fixed fee. Online card and Klarna payments add 30¢ and in-person payments 5¢. Tap to Pay on a phone adds another 10¢. ACH has no fixed fee. The percentage part is rounded to the cent, then the fixed fee is added.
Payout. Stripe pays your balance out to your bank for free on its standard schedule. Tick Instant Payout to see the cost of getting this payment within minutes: 1.5% of what’s paid out, at least 50¢.
What to charge. Switch to What to charge and enter the amount you need to receive. The calculator finds the lowest payment that leaves at least that much after the fees you ticked, to the cent, which helps with invoices and with surcharges where they’re allowed.
Example
Five payments into a US Stripe account on standard pricing.
| Payment | Working | Fee | You receive |
|---|---|---|---|
| $100 online, US card | 2.9% + 30¢ | $3.20 | $96.80 |
| $100 online, foreign card in another currency | 5.4% + 30¢ | $5.70 | $94.30 |
| $100 Klarna | 5.99% + 30¢ | $6.29 | $93.71 |
| $1,000 ACH Direct Debit | 0.8%, $5.00 cap | $5.00 | $995.00 |
| $50 Tap to Pay | 2.7% + 5¢ + 10¢ | $1.50 | $48.50 |
To receive exactly $100 from a US card online, charge $103.30: the fee on that is $3.00 plus 30¢. If you take the $96.80 from a $100 payment as an Instant Payout, Stripe keeps another $1.45 and $95.35 reaches your bank.

FAQ
How much does Stripe charge per transaction?
On standard pricing for a US account, Stripe charges 2.9% plus 30¢ for each successful online payment with a domestic card or wallet such as Apple Pay. On a $100 payment that is $3.20, so you receive $96.80. There are no setup or monthly fees on this pricing; large businesses can ask Stripe for a custom rate.
What is the Stripe international card fee?
Stripe adds 1.5% when the card was issued outside the US, and another 1% if the payment has to be converted from another currency. A $100 payment with a foreign card, charged in another currency, costs 5.4% plus 30¢, which is $5.70. Manually typed card numbers add 0.5% on top of any of these.
Is ACH cheaper than cards on Stripe?
Yes, for most amounts. ACH Direct Debit costs 0.8% with a $5.00 cap, so any payment of $625 or more pays the same $5.00. A $1,000 invoice costs $5.00 by ACH against $29.30 by card. The trade-off is time: bank debits take a few days to confirm, and they can fail if the account has no funds.
How much does Stripe charge for in-person payments?
Card payments taken in person with Stripe Terminal cost 2.7% plus 5¢ for domestic cards, plus 1.5% for cards issued abroad. Tap to Pay, which accepts contactless cards on a compatible iPhone or Android phone without a reader, adds 10¢ per authorization. A $50 Tap to Pay sale costs $1.50.
How do I work out what to charge to receive an exact amount?
Choose What to charge and enter the amount you want to keep. The calculator finds the lowest payment, to the cent, that leaves at least that much after every fee you ticked. To receive $100 from a domestic card payment, charge $103.30. Check your card network rules and local law before passing fees on to customers.
Does Stripe charge for payouts or refunds?
Standard payouts to your bank account are free. Instant Payouts, which arrive within minutes, cost 1.5% of the amount paid out with a 50¢ minimum. Each dispute you receive costs $15.00. Stripe’s pricing page lists other products, such as Billing, Invoicing, Tax and Radar, with their own fees.
