How it works

Enter the item price, the shipping and who pays for it. Every rate comes from Mercari’s Help Center pages on fees and payouts, linked below the calculator. It covers Mercari in the US.

Selling fee. Since 6 January 2025, Mercari charges sellers a flat 10% on the completed item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. There is no payment processing fee on top, for sellers or buyers. Listings created before that date moved to the new structure once they were edited or updated.

Shipping. If the buyer pays shipping, it pays for the label, and the 10% is charged on it as well. If you offer free shipping, the fee is on the item price only and the label comes out of your earnings. Choose who pays and the calculator handles both.

Instant Pay. Withdrawing to a debit card with Instant Pay costs $3 each time; standard direct deposit is free. Tick the box to take it off this sale.

The buyer’s side. Buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the same amount, plus sales tax. It doesn’t come out of your earnings, but it is part of what your buyer sees at checkout, so the calculator shows it too.

Price to list. Switch to Price to list and enter the earnings you want. The calculator finds the lowest price that gets there, to the cent. Mercari deactivates listings whose earnings would be negative, and the calculator warns you if yours are.

FAQ

How much does Mercari take from a sale?

Mercari charges sellers a flat 10% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays, on listings created or updated since 6 January 2025. There is no separate payment processing fee. A $40 item with $8 buyer-paid shipping pays a $4.80 fee, and you earn $35.20 after the buyer’s shipping covers the label.

Does Mercari charge its fee on shipping?

Only when the buyer pays for shipping. Then the 10% is charged on the item price plus the shipping, so $8 of buyer-paid shipping adds 80¢ to the fee. When you offer free shipping and pay for the label yourself, the fee is on the item price alone, but the label cost comes out of your earnings.

Is there still a payment processing fee on Mercari?

Not on listings under the current fee structure. Mercari’s help pages say there is no additional payment processing fee for buyers or sellers. The old structure charged 2.9% plus 50¢ for processing, and it still applied to listings created before 6 January 2025 until they were edited or updated.

What does the buyer pay on Mercari?

Buyers pay a flat 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on the item price and any shipping they pay, plus sales tax where it applies. On a $40 item with $8 shipping, the Buyer Protection fee is $1.73 and the buyer pays $49.73 before tax. The fee is charged to the buyer, so it doesn’t reduce your earnings.

How much does Instant Pay cost on Mercari?

Instant Pay sends your balance to an eligible debit card for $3 a withdrawal. Standard direct deposit to your bank account is free. If you cash out after every sale, the $3 matters on cheap items: a $10 sale earns $9.00, and only $6.00 once Instant Pay is taken. Withdrawing several sales at once spreads the fee.

How do I work out what to list an item for?

Choose Price to list and enter the earnings you want, with your shipping. The calculator finds the lowest price, to the cent, that leaves that much after the 10% fee. To earn $45 with no shipping, list at $50. To earn $30 when the buyer pays $8 shipping, list at $34.22; if you pay the $8, list at $42.22.
