How it works

Choose your plan and billing, whether you take payments with Shopify Payments or another provider, then enter the order and your costs. Every rate comes from Shopify’s Australian pricing page, linked below the calculator.

Card fee. Shopify Payments charges a percentage plus 30¢ on the amount the customer pays, item and shipping together. Domestic cards pay 1.7% on Basic down to 1.15% on Plus. Amex pays 2.9% down to 2.6%, and cards issued outside Australia 3.5% down to 3.2%.

Another provider. If you use PayPal, Stripe or another gateway instead, enter its rate and fixed fee. Shopify then adds its third-party transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus.

Plan and GST. Enter your monthly orders to spread the plan’s cost over each order. Australian prices usually include GST; if you’re registered, the calculator takes one eleventh of the order total off your profit as the GST you owe the ATO.

Profit. Payout is the order minus fees; profit takes off your item, shipping and other costs. Set a profit target to see the lowest price that reaches it, and copy a link to share the exact numbers.

How much does Shopify charge per sale in Australia?

With Shopify Payments, Australian stores pay an online card rate of 1.7% + 30¢ on Basic, 1.55% + 30¢ on Grow, 1.35% + 30¢ on Advanced and 1.15% + 30¢ on Plus. On a A$60 order on Basic that is A$1.32. Amex and international cards cost more, and the monthly plan is on top.

How much do Shopify plans cost in Australia?

Billed yearly, Basic is A$42 a month, Grow A$114 and Advanced A$431. Billed monthly they are A$56, A$149 and A$575. Plus starts at A$3,700 a month. Shopify’s Australian pricing page lists these in AUD; enter your monthly orders in the calculator to see what the plan adds to each order.

What are Shopify’s Amex and international card rates in Australia?

Amex cards cost 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic, 2.8% on Grow, 2.7% on Advanced and 2.6% on Plus. Cards issued outside Australia cost 3.5% + 30¢ on Basic, 3.4% on Grow, 3.3% on Advanced and 3.2% on Plus. On a A$60 Basic order that is A$2.04 for Amex and A$2.40 for an international card.

What is the Shopify third-party transaction fee in Australia?

If you take payments through a provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a third-party transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, on top of your provider’s own fee. Choose Another provider in the calculator and enter your provider’s rate to compare the two.

Does the calculator include GST?

Prices on an Australian store usually include 10% GST, so enter the price your customer pays. If you’re registered for GST, tick the box and the calculator takes off the GST you owe the ATO, one eleventh of the GST-inclusive total. Shopify’s pricing page doesn’t say how GST applies to its own fees, so none is added to them.

Which Shopify plan is cheapest for my Australian store?

Moving from Basic to Grow costs A$72 more a month on yearly billing and cuts the domestic card rate by 0.15 points, so on card fees alone it pays for itself at about A$48,000 a month of domestic card sales.
