How it works

Enter one order: the item price, what the buyer pays for delivery, and what the item, postage and packaging cost you. Pick the category, your selling plan and whether you ship the order or Amazon does. Every rate comes from Amazon’s Referral fees and Selling on Amazon fee schedule pages for Amazon.com, and the date they were last checked is shown under the calculator.

Referral fee. Amazon deducts a percentage of the total sales price, the item price plus delivery and gift wrap charges, excluding tax. Most categories pay 15%. Some charge a different rate by price band, such as Clothing at 5%, 10% or 17%, or a lower rate on the part of the price above a threshold, such as Watches at 16% up to $1,500 and 3% above. In most categories the fee is at least $0.30 per item.

Closing fee and plan. Books, DVD, Music, Software and video games add a $1.80 closing fee per item. The Individual plan charges $0.99 for each item sold; the Professional plan is $39.99 a month instead, spread across your orders when you enter how many you sell.

FBA. With Fulfillment by Amazon, enter the fulfillment fee for your product. Amazon delivers the order, so your own delivery charge and postage are left out. Storage and inbound fees are billed separately and aren’t counted.

Profit. What you keep is the item price and delivery charge, minus Amazon’s fees, the item, postage and other costs. Enter a target profit to get the lowest price that reaches it, and compare the same sale on four other platforms below the calculator.

FAQ

How much does Amazon take from a sale?

Most categories pay a 15% referral fee on the total sales price, which is the item price plus any delivery and gift wrap charges, with a $0.30 minimum per item. A $50 item with $8 delivery in Everything Else pays $8.70. Media and video games add a $1.80 closing fee, and the Individual plan adds $0.99 per item.

Is the referral fee charged on shipping?

Yes, when you fulfil the order yourself. Amazon calculates the referral fee on the total amount the buyer pays, including the item price, delivery charges and gift wrap, but not the sales tax Amazon calculates. With FBA, Amazon delivers the order, so this calculator puts only the item price in the referral base.

Which categories have lower or tiered referral fees?

Computers, Consumer Electronics, Full-Size Appliances and Video Game Consoles pay 8%. Clothing pays 5% up to $15, 10% up to $20 and 17% above. Furniture, Jewelry, Watches, Electronics Accessories and Compact Appliances charge a lower rate on the part of the price above a threshold. The table below lists every category.

Individual or Professional plan?

The Individual plan has no monthly fee but charges $0.99 for every item sold. Professional costs $39.99 a month with no per-item fee. Professional is cheaper once you sell more than about 40 items a month. Enter your orders a month to see the subscription spread across each order.

How do I include FBA fees?

Choose Amazon ships (FBA) and enter the fulfillment fee for your product. Amazon sets it by size tier and shipping weight, so look it up in Amazon’s Revenue Calculator or your Seller Central fee preview. Storage, inbound placement and returns processing fees aren’t included here.

Does this work for Amazon UK, Canada or Australia?

Not yet. These are Amazon.com rates for the US marketplace. Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.ca and Amazon.com.au have their own referral fee schedules, and VAT or GST applies to seller fees there. Those marketplaces will get their own pages once their rates are checked against Amazon’s own fee schedules.
