QR codes

  • £10.01 and above: 1.5% + 10p. A £20 payment costs 40p.
  • £10.00 and below: 2% + 5p. An £8 payment costs 21p.

The tiered plan

PayPal offers a tiered rate on request, based on last month’s eligible sales. It replaces the 2.9% rate for ordinary commercial payments:

  • up to £4,000: 2.9% (£3.20 on £100)
  • £4,000 to £8,000: 2.4% (£2.70)
  • over £8,000: 2.1% (£2.40)

It doesn’t change Pay Later or QR code rates.

Fixed fees and conversion

  • The fixed fee follows the currency you receive: 30p in pounds, €0.35 in euros, US$0.30 in US dollars, A$0.30 and C$0.30.
  • When PayPal converts money in a business account, its exchange rate is 3% above the base rate. Holding the balance in the received currency avoids it.

What to charge

To receive exactly £100 from a UK buyer, ask for £103.30. Check card scheme rules and the law before adding a surcharge for paying by PayPal.
