PayPal Fees by Country (2026)

By Selling Fee Tools team ·

PayPal’s fees for receiving business payments depend on where your account is registered, where the buyer’s account is, and the currency you receive. This guide compares the US, UK, Canada and Australia, using PayPal’s Merchant Fees page for each country, checked in October 2026.

Standard checkout rate

Your accountPayPal Checkout and most commercial paymentsFixed fee in your currency
US3.49%$0.49
UK2.9%£0.30
Canada2.9%C$0.30
Australia2.9%A$0.30

US accounts pay noticeably more. In the US, card payments through PayPal’s standard card processing and goods-and-services payments between PayPal accounts cost 2.99%, and Pay Later 4.99%, each with its own fixed-fee rule.

International buyers

When the buyer’s PayPal account is registered in another country, PayPal adds a percentage:

  • US: +1.5% for any buyer outside the US.
  • UK: +1.29% for buyers in the European Economic Area, +1.99% for everywhere else. Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man count as domestic.
  • Canada: +0.8% for buyers in the US, +1% for everywhere else.
  • Australia: +1% for any buyer outside Australia.

A 100.00 payment

In each account’s own currency, received in that currency:

Your accountDomestic buyerBuyer abroad
US$3.98$5.48
UK£3.20£4.49 (EEA) or £5.19 (elsewhere)
CanadaC$3.20C$4.00 (US) or C$4.20 (elsewhere)
AustraliaA$3.20A$4.20

The fixed fee follows the currency you receive, not your country: a UK account receiving US dollars pays $0.30, and a US account receiving euros pays €0.39.

QR codes

In-person QR code payments are cheaper everywhere:

  • US: 2.29% + $0.09.
  • UK: 1.5% + 10p at £10.01 and above, 2% + 5p at £10.00 and below.
  • Canada: 1.90% + C$0.10 at C$10.01 and above, 2.40% + C$0.05 at C$10.00 and below.
  • Australia: 1.20%, with no fixed fee shown on PayPal’s Australian page.

Currency conversion

If PayPal converts the money for you, its exchange rate includes a margin above the base rate: 3% in the US, UK and Australia for most conversions, and at least 4% in Canada for converting a payment you received in another currency. Australia lists 4% for a few cases, such as paying in a currency other than the listing’s. Holding the balance in the received currency avoids the conversion.

Work out what to charge

Each calculator has a “What to charge” mode that finds the amount to ask for so a set sum lands in your account after fees. To receive 100.00 from a domestic buyer, ask for $104.12 in the US, or 103.30 in the UK, Canada and Australia.
