Walmart vs Amazon Seller Fees (2026)
By Selling Fee Tools team ·
Walmart Marketplace and Amazon charge sellers in a similar way: a referral fee as a percentage of each sale, set by category, and optional fulfillment fees if they store and ship your stock. The differences are in the monthly fee, the minimum fee and a handful of categories. This guide uses Walmart’s Marketplace pricing page and Amazon’s US fee pages, checked in October 2026.
Monthly and fixed fees
| Walmart Marketplace | Amazon.com | |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly or plan fee | None: no setup or monthly fees | Professional $39.99 a month, or Individual $0.99 per item sold |
| Minimum referral fee | None | $0.30 per item in most categories |
| Closing fee on media | None | $1.80 per item for books, music, video, DVD, software and video games |
| Referral fee base | Item price plus shipping, gift wrap and other charges | Item price plus delivery and gift wrap, excluding tax |
For a seller with a small number of orders, Amazon’s $39.99 a month is the biggest difference: at 40 orders a month it adds about $1.00 to each one.

Fulfillment: WFS and FBA
Both offer fulfillment services that store, pack and ship your orders for a fee per unit.
- Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) publishes one weight table for standard items: $3.45 up to 1 lb, $4.95 at 2 lb, $5.45 at 3 lb, then $5.75 + $0.40 per lb over 4 up to 20 lb, with extras for apparel, hazmat, prices under $10 and oversize items. Shipping weight uses the greater of the unit and dimensional weight (L × W × H ÷ 139) from 1 lb, plus 0.25 lb of packaging, rounded up. Storage is $0.75 per cubic foot a month from January to September.
- Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) fees depend on the size tier and weight in Amazon’s rate card; look up the fee for your product in Amazon’s Revenue Calculator and enter it in our Amazon calculator.
Walmart’s own examples: a 6 lb item in a 12 × 10 × 10 in box costs $7.75, and a 230.4 lb massage chair $267.80 as a big & bulky item.
Which costs less?
- Low volume or cheap items: Walmart, with no monthly fee and no minimum referral fee.
- Computers, watches and clothing over $20: Walmart’s rates are lower.
- Most other categories: the referral fee is the same, so fulfillment costs, advertising and how much you sell on each platform decide it.
