Shopify vs Etsy Fees (US, 2026)

By Selling Fee Tools team ·

Etsy and Shopify charge in opposite ways. Etsy has almost no fixed cost but takes a percentage of every sale, because it brings you the buyers. Shopify charges a monthly plan and a smaller card fee, and you bring your own buyers. This guide compares them for US sellers, using Etsy’s Help Center and Shopify’s pricing page, checked in October 2026.

$25$2.83$1.03
$48$5.01$1.69
$100$9.95$3.20

Shopify’s card fee doesn’t include the $29 plan. On $48 orders, Etsy takes $3.32 more per order, so on fees alone Shopify’s plan is covered after about 9 orders a month.

What the fees leave out

  • Buyers. Etsy shows your listings to people already shopping on Etsy. A Shopify store starts with no visitors: you pay for them through ads, social media or email, and that cost per order can outweigh the fee difference. Use the break-even ROAS calculator to see what you can afford to spend.
  • Offsite Ads can raise Etsy’s cost on some orders to 25% or more.
  • Apps and themes can add monthly costs on Shopify.

Using both

You can keep Etsy for discovery and run a Shopify store for repeat customers. Fees per order are lower on the store, so returning customers are worth sending there.
