Shopify Payments Fees by Country (2026)

By Selling Fee Tools team ·

Shopify uses the same four plans everywhere, Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus, but the card rates and prices depend on the country your store is based in. This guide compares the US, UK, Canada and Australia using each country’s Shopify pricing page, checked in October 2026.

Online card rates with Shopify Payments

Shopify Payments charges a percentage plus a fixed fee on every online card payment. The rate falls as the plan rises.

PlanUSUKCanadaAustralia
Basic2.9% + 30¢2% + 25p2.8% + 30¢1.7% + 30¢
Grow2.7% + 30¢1.7% + 25p2.6% + 30¢1.55% + 30¢
Advanced2.5% + 30¢1.5% + 25p2.4% + 30¢1.35% + 30¢
Plus2.25% + 30¢1.3% + 25p2.15% + 30¢1.15% + 30¢

UK and Australian stores pay much less on domestic cards than US and Canadian ones.

Amex and international cards

Cards issued abroad, and Amex in the UK, Canada and Australia, cost more:

  • US: international cards add 1% to the plan’s rate; premium cards cost 3.5% on Basic down to 2.95% on Plus.
  • UK: Amex and international cards cost 3.1% + 25p on Basic, 2.7% on Grow, 2.5% on Advanced and 2.3% on Plus.
  • Canada: Amex and international cards cost 3.5% + 30¢ on Basic, 3.4% on Grow, 3.3% on Advanced and 3.15% on Plus.
  • Australia: Amex costs 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic down to 2.6% on Plus; international cards 3.5% down to 3.2%.

For a store selling abroad, these rates matter more than the headline domestic rate.

A 100.00 order on Basic

In each store’s own currency:

CardUSUKCanadaAustralia
Domestic card$3.20£2.25C$3.10A$2.00
International card$4.20£3.35C$3.80A$3.80

In Canada, prices are listed before tax and GST/HST is added at checkout, so the card fee is charged on the tax too: a C$100 order to Ontario with 13% HST puts C$113 through the card, and the Basic fee is C$3.46.

Using another payment provider

If you take payments through PayPal, Stripe or another gateway instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a third-party transaction fee on top of that provider’s own fee. It is the same in all four countries: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. On Basic, a provider charging 2.9% + 30¢ plus Shopify’s 2% costs 4.9% plus the fixed fee, far more than Shopify Payments.

Plusfrom $2,300from £1,800from C$3,400from A$3,700

When does upgrading pay off?

Moving from Basic to Grow costs more each month but lowers the card rate. On card fees alone, with yearly billing, it pays for itself at about:

  • US: $50 more a month for 0.2 points lower: about $25,000 a month of card sales.
  • UK: £30 more for 0.3 points lower: about £10,000 a month.
  • Canada: C$62 more for 0.2 points lower: about C$31,000 a month.
  • Australia: A$72 more for 0.15 points lower on domestic cards: about A$48,000 a month.

Grow also adds staff accounts and other features, which may matter more than the fee saving.
