Selling in Australia: Fees Compared

By Selling Fee Tools team ·

Australian sellers can sell through marketplaces, where the platform brings the buyers, or through their own Shopify store, where they pay mostly for card processing. This guide compares them on one order, using each platform’s Australian fee pages, checked in October 2026.

Reading the table

  • eBay’s free selling is the standout. Australian sellers with A$25,000 or less in sales over 12 months and no Pro plan pay no final value fee on domestic sales. Above that, eBay moves you to Pro Starter.
  • Shopify and PayPal are payment costs only. On your own store you also pay the plan, A$42 a month for Shopify Basic on yearly billing, and bring your own buyers.
  • GST is handled differently. Amazon and Etsy quote fees excluding GST and add 10% if you aren’t registered; eBay’s fees are shown including GST. If you’re registered, you claim GST on fees back but owe one eleventh of your sales: A$4.55 on this order.
  • Monthly costs aren’t in the table: Amazon Professional is A$49.95 a month (or A$0.99 per item on Individual), and eBay Pro Basic is A$27.45.
  • TikTok Shop hasn’t published Australian seller fees, so it isn’t included.
