eBay and Etsy Fees in Canada (2026)
By Selling Fee Tools team ·
In Canada, sales tax changes the fees more than anywhere else: eBay charges its percentage on the sales tax too, and Etsy’s GST/HST rules depend on whether you’re registered. This guide compares eBay.ca and Etsy for sellers based in Canada, using eBay’s Selling fees page, Etsy’s Help Center and the Canada Revenue Agency, checked in October 2026.
eBay.ca fees
For sellers registered in Canada without an eBay Store:
- Final value fee: 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to C$7,500 in most categories, and 2.35% above. Books, movies and music pay 15.3%; coins and some collectibles, including trading cards, 13.25%; guitars and basses 6.7%.
- Per-order fee: C$0.30 for sales of C$10 or less and C$0.40 above.
- Total amount of the sale includes the item price, shipping, handling and sales tax. eBay’s own example: a C$400 phone shipped free to Ontario is a C$452 sale with 13% HST, and the final value fee is 13.6% of C$452 plus C$0.40, C$61.87.
- International fee: 0.4% for buyers in the US and 1% everywhere else, or none with eBay International Shipping on an eligible listing.
- Listings: 250 free a month, then C$0.30 each.
Etsy for Canadian shops
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the item price, shipping and gift wrap.
- Regulatory operating fee: 0.50% of the same amount.
- Payment processing: 3% + C$0.25 for buyers in Canada or the US, 4% + C$0.25 for buyers elsewhere, on the total sale price including any sales tax Etsy collects.
- GST/HST on fees at your province’s rate. If you’re not registered and Etsy collected GST/HST from a Canadian buyer, the transaction and processing fees are exempt, but the regulatory fee, listing fee and ads are still taxed. If you are registered and have added your ID, GST/HST is charged on every fee and you can usually claim it back.
- When you’re not registered, Etsy adds GST/HST to Canadian buyers’ orders at checkout and pays it to the tax authorities for you.
The same order on both
A C$40 item with C$10 shipping, a C$50 order, from a shop in Ontario, seller not registered for GST/HST, eBay’s most-categories rate, listing fees left out:
| Buyer | eBay.ca | Etsy |
|---|---|---|
| In Ontario (13% HST, C$56.50 total) | 13.6% of C$56.50 + C$0.40 = C$8.08 | C$3.25 + C$1.95 + C$0.25 + C$0.03 HST = C$5.48 |
| In the US | C$6.80 + C$0.40 + C$0.20 = C$7.40 | C$3.25 + C$1.75 + C$0.25 + C$0.68 HST = C$5.93 |
| Elsewhere | C$6.80 + C$0.40 + C$0.50 = C$7.70 | C$3.25 + C$2.25 + C$0.25 + C$0.75 HST = C$6.50 |
On this order Etsy costs less in every case. eBay’s fee rises with the buyer’s sales tax, because tax is part of the total it charges on: a buyer in a 15% HST province costs you more in eBay fees than one in a 5% GST province.
GST/HST for online sellers
- You don’t have to register while your taxable revenues stay at C$30,000 or less, in any single calendar quarter and over the last four quarters.
- The rate follows where the buyer is: 13% HST in Ontario, 14% in Nova Scotia, 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island, and 5% GST in the other provinces and the territories. British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec and Saskatchewan add their own provincial sales tax.
- Once registered, you charge GST/HST on Canadian sales and remit it, and claim back the GST/HST in your fees.
The GST/HST calculator adds or removes the right rate for any province.
