eBay and Etsy Fees in Australia (2026)
By Selling Fee Tools team ·
Australian sellers get a deal no other eBay country offers: free selling for smaller sellers. Etsy charges the same fees in Australia as elsewhere, with GST on top unless you’ve added a tax ID. This guide compares the two using eBay.com.au’s fee pages and Etsy’s Help Center, checked in October 2026.
eBay.com.au: free selling
If your registered address is in Australia, you don’t have an eBay Pro plan, and your sales over the past 12 months total A$25,000 or less, you pay no final value fees on Australian sales. You still pay:
- a 3% international fee on orders posted overseas, on the total sale;
- fees for optional upgrades and Promoted Listings.
eBay checks your sales across all its sites every month. Once you pass A$25,000 without a Pro plan, it moves you to Pro Starter from the 1st of the next month.
eBay Pro plans
| Plan | Monthly | Most categories (Tier 2) | Order fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro Starter | A$0 | 13.4% in every category | A$0.30 |
| Pro Basic | A$27.45 | 11.44% | A$0.33 |
| Pro Featured | A$82.45 | 10.34% | A$0.33 |
| Pro Anchor | A$604.95 | 9.68% | A$0.33 |
Paid plans charge by category tier, from 8.03% on Pro Basic for Tier 1 items such as phones and appliances, up to 13.09% for fashion, collectables and media. Above A$4,000 of a sale the rate drops to 2.5% on Starter or 2.75% on paid plans. On a Pro plan the international fee is 1.1%. eBay’s fees are shown and charged including 10% GST for sellers registered in Australia.
Etsy for Australian shops
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the item price, postage and gift wrap.
- Payment processing: 3% + A$0.25 for domestic orders, 4% + A$0.25 for international orders, on the total sale price including postage.
- Listing fee: US$0.20, converted to Australian dollars when charged.
- GST: without a tax ID added to Etsy, 10% GST is added to Etsy’s fees. Etsy’s regulatory operating fee isn’t charged in Australia.
The same order on both
A A$40 item with A$10 postage, a A$50 order, in eBay’s Tier 2 (most categories), seller not registered for GST, listing fees left out:
| Platform | Buyer in Australia | Buyer overseas |
|---|---|---|
| eBay, free selling | A$0.00 | A$1.50 international fee |
| eBay, Pro Starter | A$6.70 + A$0.30 = A$7.00 | A$7.55 |
| eBay, Pro Basic | A$5.72 + A$0.33 = A$6.05 | A$6.60 |
| Etsy, no tax ID | A$3.25 + A$1.75 + A$0.50 GST = A$5.50 | A$6.05 |
Under the A$25,000 threshold, eBay is the cheaper place to sell in Australia. Above it, Etsy’s fees come to 11% of this order against 14% on eBay Pro Starter, and Pro Basic only pays for itself if you sell enough to cover its A$27.45 a month.
GST for online sellers
- You must register for GST within 21 days once your GST turnover reaches A$75,000 (A$150,000 for non-profits).
- If you’re registered, you can usually claim back the GST in eBay’s and Etsy’s fees, and you owe one eleventh of your GST-inclusive Australian sales: A$4.55 on a A$50 order.
- Exports are generally GST-free, but they still count towards your GST turnover.
The GST calculator adds or removes GST from any price, one amount or a list.
