Product Image Sizes by Marketplace

Every marketplace has its own rules for product photos: a minimum size, a recommended size, sometimes a file size limit and a background rule. Photos below the minimum can be rejected or ranked lower. This guide collects the rules from each marketplace’s own help pages, checked in October 2026.

Backgrounds and content
- Amazon: the main image needs a pure white background, RGB 255, 255, 255, with the product filling about 85% of the frame. JPEG is Amazon’s recommended format.
- TikTok Shop: the main image must have a pure white background, be in colour, and have no text or logos.
- eBay: square (1:1) and 16:9 photos look best, and white backgrounds are generally best.
- Etsy: use landscape or square first photos with enough border to crop to square, portrait and landscape thumbnails. Transparent areas in a PNG show as black on Etsy.
- Shopify: PNG is Shopify’s suggested file type for most product images, followed by JPEG. Use one aspect ratio for all featured images so collection pages line up.
Don’t enlarge small photos
Making a small image bigger only adds blur, and Amazon asks sellers not to artificially enlarge images. Shoot or export at the recommended size, and if a photo is below a marketplace’s minimum, retake it.
Resize a whole batch
The marketplace image resizer resizes up to 50 photos at a time to each marketplace’s preset, in your browser:
- it fits each photo whole on a white canvas, centred, so margins and transparent areas become white;
- it never enlarges a photo, and flags any below the marketplace minimum;
- for Etsy it lowers JPEG quality step by step until the file is under 1 MB;
- it shows the size before and after, and downloads everything as one ZIP.
It doesn’t remove a background that is already in the photo: for Amazon and TikTok Shop main images, shoot on white or remove the background first.
