eBay vs Etsy Fees in 2026

By Selling Fee Tools team ·

eBay and Etsy both take a cut of every sale, but they build it differently. eBay rolls almost everything into one final value fee. Etsy splits it into a listing fee, a transaction fee and a payment processing fee. This guide compares the two for US sellers, using eBay’s and Etsy’s own fee pages, checked in October 2026.

What eBay charges

  • Final value fee: in most categories, 13.6% of the total amount of the sale up to $7,500, and 2.35% on any part above. Books, movies and music pay 15.3%; some collectibles, such as trading cards, 13.25%; and a few categories, such as guitars and athletic shoes over $150, much less.
  • Per-order fee: $0.30 for sales of $10 or less and $0.40 above.
  • Total amount of the sale includes the item price, shipping, handling and the sales tax eBay collects from the buyer.
  • Listings: 250 free listings a month, then $0.35 each without a Store.
  • Extras: 1.65% for international buyers, 6% more if your account is Below Standard, and your ad rate if you use Promoted Listings. Top Rated Plus sellers get 10% off the final value fee.

What Etsy charges

  • Listing fee: $0.20 per listing, charged again when it renews after a sale.
  • Transaction fee: 6.5% of the item price plus shipping and gift wrap.
  • Payment processing: 3% + $0.25 per order in the US, on the total including sales tax.
  • Offsite Ads: if a sale comes through an Etsy ad on another site, 15% of the order total, or 12% once your shop has passed $10,000 in sales in a year, capped at $100 per order.

The same sales on both

In the Everything Else category on eBay, with no Store, no ads and no free listings left on Etsy:

SaleeBay feesEtsy fees
$40 item + $8 shipping, no tax$6.53 + $0.40 = $6.93$0.20 + $3.12 + $1.69 = $5.01
Same, buyer pays 8% sales tax$7.05 + $0.40 = $7.45$0.20 + $3.12 + $1.81 = $5.13
$15 item + $5 shipping$2.72 + $0.40 = $3.12$0.20 + $1.30 + $0.85 = $2.35
$200 item, free shipping$27.20 + $0.40 = $27.60$0.20 + $13.00 + $6.25 = $19.45

On these sales Etsy costs less: its fees come to about 10.5% of a $48 order against about 14.4% on eBay. Sales tax raises both, because eBay charges its whole fee on the tax and Etsy charges processing on it.

When the picture changes

  • Offsite Ads. On the $48 Etsy order, an Offsite Ads sale adds 15%, $7.20, and the total becomes $12.21, more than eBay. Shops under $10,000 a year can opt out of Offsite Ads; above that, they can’t.
  • eBay Stores and Top Rated Plus. A Store lowers eBay’s final value fee in many categories, and Top Rated Plus takes 10% off it, which narrows the gap.
  • Category. eBay is far cheaper in some categories, such as guitars and basses (6.7%), athletic shoes from $150 (8% and no per-order fee) and heavy equipment (3%).
  • Promoted Listings and Etsy Ads. Advertising on either platform can cost more than the selling fees themselves; add your ad rate before comparing.
